Think the Mets are just gonna let Jose Reyes walk? Or maybe even trade him? Maybe not.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports this morning that Sandy Alderson is “leaning strongly toward authorizing a substantial offer” to Reyes.
Reyes is hitting .354/.398/.529 this year and, recent hamstring tweak notwithstanding, has completely changed everyone’s impression of where he stands in his career. Based on this season, there seems to be a ton of gas in the tank, and it makes a lot of baseball sense for the Mets to stick with him and build around the best shortstop in the game.
Does it make financial sense? At least for the Wilpons give their current situation? That’s the real question.
