Rafael Furcal might move to second base

The Dodgers like what they’ve seen from their rookie shortstop Dee Gordon. So much, in fact, that they are discussing some changes for their infield.

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said before tonight’s game that Rafael Furcal could move to second base when he returns from the disabled list.

Furcal has been sidelined since June 4 due to a strained left oblique. The 33-year-old last appeared at second base in 2004 with the Braves, but hasn’t played there regularly since his rookie season in 2000. Considering that he’s in the final year of his three-year, $30 million contract and the Dodgers are fading fast in the NL West, this would be the appropriate time to make the switch.

Gordon, 23, is batting .268/.293/.321 with a 13/2 K/BB ratio over his first 59 major league plate appearances. He is 4-for-6 in stolen base attempts.

NEW YORK — Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm is out of the starting lineup for the second time in three games because of left hamstring tightness.

Bohm had an MRI and the Phillies were awaiting the results. Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson said it was too soon to tell if Bohm might land on the injured list.

Bohm sat out the loss in Atlanta because of the same issue then Philadelphia was off.

Edmundo Sosa was set to start at third against the New York Mets, batting ninth.

Thomson said Bohm felt discomfort after fielding a slow roller. He played the entire game and went 0 for 3 in a 2-0 loss to the Mets.

Bohm is batting .265 with six homers and a team-high 37 RBIs this season. He has a .724 OPS.
