Cubs calling up veteran lefty Doug Davis for Saturday start

Earlier this week the Cubs promoted Doug Davis from Single-A to Triple-A and now Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com reports that the veteran left-hander is set to join the Cubs’ rotation Saturday.

Davis managed only a minor-league contract coming off a season wrecked by injuries, including elbow surgery, but if healthy the 35-year-old southpaw has typically been a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter for the past decade or so.

It took only two solid starts in the minors to convince the Cubs to call him up even though they could have waited until May 30 under the terms of his contract, so clearly they think he’s still capable of contributing with Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner both sidelined by injuries.
