Andre Ethier extended his career-best hitting streak to 22 games with a single in his first at-bat tonight against the Marlins, which matches his former manager Joe Torre for the longest hitting streak ever in April.

Torre hit in 22 consecutive April games back in 1971 as a member of the Cardinals. It was the same year he won the National League MVP award for leading the league with a career-high .363 batting average, 230 hits and 137 RBI. Wow. Sometimes we forget that Torre was a pretty darn good baseball player.

As of this post, Ethier is batting .385 (35-for-91) with two homers, eight doubles and 13 RBI on the young season.
