Orioles’ Luke Scott suffers groin injury

The Orioles are going to be without one of their main sluggers for the next couple of days.

Or maybe longer.

According to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, outfielder Luke Scott had to be lifted from Saturday night’s game — the same game that saw Rays third baseman Evan Longoria suffer an oblique injury — due to some kind of groin problem.

Scott apparently suffered the groin injury while pushing out of the batter’s box on a fielder’s choice groundout in the seventh inning. Felix Pie came on to pinch-run and then stayed in left field, making a throw that helped the O’s win the game.

Scott served primarily as Baltimore’s designated hitter last season, but was moved back to the outfield this winter when Vladimir Guerrero was signed. That position change may mean a lengthier recovery time if Scott suffered a muscle strain or something more serious.

UPDATE: Scott told the Sun‘s Jeff Zrebiec that he’s mostly fine and expects to play Wednesday.
