Reds trying to re-sign impending free agent Arthur Rhodes

Arthur Rhodes had one of the best seasons of his career at age 40, posting a 2.29 ERA and 50/18 K/BB ratio in 55 innings, and John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds “have had initial talks” with his agent about a new contract.

Rhodes is an impending free agent, but has said previously that he’d like to remain in Cincinnati and Fay speculates that the two sides will get a new deal worked out prior to his hitting the open market.

Rhodes has been a huge bargain for the Reds, giving them 108 innings of 2.41 ERA pitching during his two-year, $4 million contract and based on performance alone he’d obviously be in line for a sizable raise, but the market for 40-year-old relievers tends to be pretty limited and a similar contract may get a deal done.
