Yadier Molina figures to sit out the remainder of the season with a knee injury that has bothered him since last month, but the Cardinals catcher told told Matthew Leach of MLB.com that he doesn’t expect to need surgery:
That’s what they told me. They told me with rest, the inflammation is going to go away. They’re 90 percent sure with rest it’s going to go away. It’s tough to sit down, but you’ve got to take care of yourself.
Molina is going to end up sitting out the final dozen games of the season, yet may still finish as the MLB leader in games started behind the plate (130) and innings caught (1,138). He also leads baseball by throwing out 48.5 percent of stolen base attempts.
