Report: Royals set to sign former quarterback Pat White

Via our colleagues at Pro Football Talk–who may put us out of business if they start breaking news about baseball too–the Royals are close to signing former West Virginia University and Miami Dolphins quarterback Pat White to a minor league contract.
White was released by the Dolphins earlier this week and went unclaimed on waivers, so he’ll apparently give baseball a try while waiting for another NFL team to come calling. According to Mike Florio “the Royals understand that White remains interested in playing football and they will be flexible in letting him return to football if/when an opportunity arises.”
He’s obviously a longshot to have a baseball career, but White was a 49th-round pick by the Reds in 2008 and a 48th-round pick by the Yankees last year. And, of course, he was also a second-round pick by the Dolphins in 2009. I look forward to White running the spread option with Billy Butler in 2014.
Also, just a warning to Florio and Rosenthal: Stay off our corner.
