You may recall that last winter the Mets got a lot of grief for trading Brian Stokes for Gary Matthews Jr. The conventional wisdom at the time was “no matter how much salary the Angels are eating on Matthews, why on Earth would New York give up a serviceable arm like Stokes?“
Yeah, well, whoever said that kind of stuff is a dumbass, because Brian Stokes just got released by the Angels after putting up an 8.10 ERA in 16 appearances. I haven’t run the numbers, but I’m guessing he was even less valuable to the Angels than Matthews was to the Mets.
The lesson here: no on knows nothin’ about anything, so you probably shouldn’t listen to any of us.
