Mets place John Maine on the DL with shoulder weakness

john maine headshot mets.jpgJohn Maine still hadn’t seen a doctor as of Friday afternoon, but the Mets were concerned enough about the situation to place him on the disabled list with “right shoulder weakness,” according to Kevin Burkhardt of SNY.tv.

He is scheduled to undergo tests at the Hospital for Special Surgery next week, reports Kieran Darcy of ESPNNewYork.com.

I’m sure Maine is thrilled. Of course, he was removed from Thursday’s start against the Nationals after just five pitches for precautionary reasons. Their concern stemmed from the diminished velocity shown during Maine’s pregame bullpen session. We’ll soon see if they were justified.

To summarize, either by choice or injury, the Mets have now lost three-fifths of their starting rotation from Opening Day in less than a week’s time. R.A. Dickey won’t mind starting every other day, right?
