Reyes making swift progress in Mets camp

reyes headshot.JPGMets shortstop Jose Reyes has now participated in four baseball-related workouts since having his overactive thyroid cleared by team doctors.  According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, he is now ready to step it up a notch.

Reyes, 26, is expected to begin playing in minor league simulated games soon and the Mets are hoping he will be able to make his Grapefruit League debut later this week.

“We’ll continue to follow the program the physical therapy people have,”
manager Jerry Manuel said. “Now we’re able to incorporate him into team
activities, which is good.

Reyes took infield and batting practice with teammates this weekend.  He batted .279/.355/.395 last season with two home runs, 15 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 36 games.
