Giants trade Frandsen to Red Sox for PTBNL

Earlier this week the Giants were said to be shopping Kevin Frandsen around and sure enough they just traded the 27-year-old infielder to the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash.
After missing all of 2008 with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon Frandsen hit .295/.352/.438 with 13 homers in 110 games at Triple-A last season before struggling during a brief stint in San Francisco. He provides some solid depth and is a better hitter than he’s shown so far in the majors, but has been primarily a second baseman and may no longer have the range to play shortstop regularly.
Frandsen still has a minor-league option remaining, so the Red Sox could choose to send him to Triple-A. He was made available because the Giants reportedly prefer Matt Downs off the bench.
