Yankees talk to agents for Pettitte, Matsui

In additional to picking up Curtis Granderson, Yankees GM Brian Cashman worked on bringing back a couple of his own free agents today in meetings with the agents for Andy Pettitte and Hideki Matsui.
According to the New York Times, Cashman met with Pettitte’s agent, Randy Hendricks, twice. Reports Monday indicated that the Yankees were preparing an offer to Pettitte worth in excess of $10 million.
Cashman told MLB.com that he sees Matsui strictly as a DH, but he didn’t rule out bringing him back.
There were no meetings Tuesday with agent Scott Boras, who represents Johnny Damon. The Yankees are believed to prefer Damon to Matsui if they re-sign one of the two, but Damon would demand the bigger deal and he is a bit less necessary now with Granderson in the fold.
