Adam Kilgore:

Will Ohman, who pitched the sixth inning today, was cut before the game ended. Tough day at the office.

The Nationals had signed Will Ohman to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Major League camp on February 11. He made his only appearance of the spring this afternoon against the Cardinals, allowing two hits and two walks in one inning of work. The 35-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Chicago White Sox, posting an aggregate 4.95 ERA in 80 innings.

With a surfeit of lefties in camp, including Zach Duke, the Nationals felt they had seen all they needed to see with Ohman after a single inning. Tough day, indeed.

William Ladson reports Ohman was joined by Bill Bray, Brandon Mann, and Tanner Roark as all were reassigned to Minor League camp.

In their never-ending quest to compile the most depth in baseball the Nationals have signed left-hander Will Ohman to a minor-league deal, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com.

Ohman spent last season with the White Sox, posting a 6.41 ERA in 27 innings at age 34, but he was a solid middle reliever in 2010 and 2011 with a 3.78 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 95 total innings.

Washington’s bullpen is stacked with right-handers, but there could be an opening for Ohman as a left-handed specialist.

Last week the White Sox designated Will Ohman for assignment just hours after he finished a blowout win and today they released the veteran reliever.

Ohman and his $2.5 million salary predictably passed through waivers unclaimed, but now that he’s available for a prorated share of the minimum salary the left-hander should be able to draw some offers.

Ohman’s overall numbers are terrible with a 6.41 ERA in 27 innings, but he held left-handed hitters to a .182 batting average and had a 3.78 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 95 innings during the previous two seasons.
