A’s place rookie Kendall Graveman on the disabled list

Kendall Graveman’s promising rookie season is on hold, as the A’s placed the 24-year-old right-hander on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle.

Graveman was acquired from the Blue Jays in the offseason deal for Josh Donaldson and struggled initially, getting sent back to the minors in late April. He returned to Oakland’s rotation a month later and has been very solid since, throwing 99 innings with a 3.35 ERA and 70/29 K/BB ratio.

Given the lingering nature of oblique strains, Graveman’s workload, and the A’s last-place standing it’s possible he’ll simply be shut down for the season at some point.
