Video: Bryce Harper cuts down Ryan Braun at second base

Bryce Harper showed off his cannon to nab Ryan Braun on this attempt at a double on Sunday …

That was just after the Brewers plated two runs on a Jonathan Lucroy homer off Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann, which explains Harper’s scowl. Washington is currently five games back in the NL East.

Yunel Escobar day-to-day with hyperextended neck

Nationals third baseman Yunel Escobar is day-to-day after leaving Friday’s game against the Brewers with a hyperextended neck. Escobar suffered the injury when he collided with a fan and the railing along the left field line while attempting to catch a foul ball off the bat of Ryan Braun in the first inning. You can watch the play here.

Anthony Rendon took over at third base while Danny Espinosa entered the game to play second. According to CSNMidAtlantic.com, Nationals manager Matt Williams is hopeful that he won’t have to miss much time.

“He ran into a fan trying to catch that ball. As he went to reach for it, he kinda leaned over with his upper body,” Wiliams explained. “The fence caught him at the waste and hyperextended his neck a little bit. So he’s a little sore. We’ll see how he is tomorrow. For now, he’s day to day.”

In a year where many on the Nationals have underachieved and/or battled injuries, Escobar has been one of the team’s best players. The 32-year-old is batting .305 with nine home runs and 40 RBI over 109 games. His .779 OPS is his best since his rookie season with the Braves in 2007.

Brewers call up power-hitting prospect Domingo Santana

Domingo Santana Astros

Milwaukee has called up Domingo Santana from Triple-A three weeks after acquiring the 22-year-old corner outfielder from Houston in the Carlos Gomez/Mike Fiers trade.

MLB.com ranked Santana as a top-100 prospect coming into the season and he’s improved his stock by hitting .333 with 18 homers and a 1.000 OPS in 95 games at Triple-A.

Santana strikes out a ton–108 times in 95 games this season, with similar rates throughout his pro career–and that may keep him from consistently posting solid batting averages in the majors, but he has 25-homer power.

Milwaukee has Ryan Braun entrenched in right field and 27-year-old Khris Davis plays every day in left field, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Brewers give Santana a look in center field to get his bat into the lineup.

Ryan Braun moves into first on Brewers’ franchise home run list, passing Robin Yount

Ryan Braun

Ryan Braun slugged his 252nd career home run on Wednesday afternoon against the Marlins, taking over sole possession of first place on the Brewers’ franchise home run list …

Hall of Famer Robin Yount racked up 251 home runs in 20 years with the Brewers. Braun, 31, is in his ninth year with Milwaukee. Yount spoke to MLB.com’ Adam McCalvy on Wednesday evening …

Ryan Braun hit a grand slam to tie Robin Yount for Brewers’ home run record

Ryan Braun

Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun clubbed an Aaron Harang breaking ball way over the fence in left-center at Miller Park on Sunday, staking the Brewers to a 6-0 lead over the Phillies in the fifth inning. It’d help the Brewers complete a win and seal a seven-game season-sweep against the Phillies.

The grand slam was also the 251st home run of Braun’s career, tying him with Robin Yount for the most in Brewers history. Yount, however, needed 12,249 plate appearances to get there while Braun needed only 5,138.

Watch Braun make some history:

Braun, 31, has hit well for the Brewers this season, batting .272/.340/.491 with 21 home runs and 69 RBI. Earlier this summer, he made the 2015 National League All-Star team for the first time since 2012.
