Reds sign Paul Maholm to minor league deal

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Reds have agreed to a contract with 32-year-old left-hander Paul Maholm. C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer confirms the news, adding that it’s a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.

Maholm posted a rough 4.84 ERA (72 ERA+) and 1.56 WHIP in 70 2/3 innings (eight starts, 22 relief appearances) last season for the Dodgers. He needed surgery in August for a torn right ACL and might not be 100 percent healthy by the beginning of the 2015 campaign. Once he does get his health back, Maholm will become an option for the Reds’ bullpen and a potential emergency starter.
