Indians acquire Justin Sellers from the Dodgers

Jordan Bastian of MLB.com is reporting that the Indians have acquired infielder Justin Sellers from the Dodgers in exchange for cash. To make room for Sellers on the roster, the Indians designated first baseman David Cooper for assignment.

Sellers, 28, has a career .578 OPS over three seasons with the Dodgers. He has played mostly at shortstop, but has spent time at second base and third base as well.

Sellers was drafted by the Athletics in the sixth round of the 2005 draft. He was sent to the Cubs in February 2009 along with Richie Robnett for Michael Wuertz. The Dodgers purchased him from the Cubs two months later.

Mark Teahen signs with independent league team

Toronto Blue Jays batter Mark Teahen returns to the dugout after striking out during the second inning of his MLB American League baseball game against the Oakland Athletics in Oakland

Not so long ago Mark Teahen was a big-league regular and he’s still just 31 years old, but he hasn’t been in the majors since 2011 and this year he’s bounced around, being released from Triple-A by both the Diamondbacks and Rangers along with having an agreed-upon trade to the Reds nullified.

And now he’s headed to independent ball, with Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reporting that Teahen has agreed to a deal with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League.

It’s a roster stocked with former big leaguers, including Brett Tomko, Andy Marte, Jeff Fiorentino, Eric Patterson, Michael Wuertz, Corey Thurman, and Juan Rincon.

In addition to signing utility man Nick Green yesterday the Marlins also inked reliever Michael Wuertz to a minor-league deal.

Wuertz missed most of 2011 and all of 2012 while injured, but before that the right-hander was one of the more underrated setup man around with a 3.45 ERA and 412 strikeouts in 381 innings from 2004-2010.

His deal includes an invitation to spring training and Wuertz will try to win a middle relief job at age 34.
