Shelby Miller loses no-hitter with one out to go

There’s some history developing in Miami …

Braves right-hander Shelby Miller has allowed just one walk and no hits through seven innings against the Marlins and he’ll carry a pitch count of just 73 into the bottom of the eighth inning.

Atlanta has a 6-0 lead.

We’ll provide updates as he tries to finish this off.

EIGHTH INNING: Miller got flyouts from Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich, and then Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons made a nice play on a soft grounder from Ichiro Suzuki for the third out of the eighth inning. Miller will carry a no-hitter into the ninth. And he’s thrown only 80 pitches. This may happen.

NINTH INNING: Miller induced an easy groundout from Adeiny Hechavarria for the first out of the ninth. And then an easy flyout to center field from Jhonatan Solano for the second out of the ninth. But, look at that, pitch-hitter Justin Bour ended the fun with a hard single up the middle with just one out to go.

The Nationals have signed veteran catcher Chris Snyder to a minor league contract, according to an announcement from the team. The deal includes a spring training invite.

Snyder appeared in nine games with the Orioles this past season, but spent the majority of the season at the Triple-A level. The 32-year-old backstop hit .176/.295/.308 with seven home runs and 24 RBI over 258 plate appearances with the Astros in 2012.

Snyder should compete with Sandy Leon and Jhonatan Solano in spring training to serve as Wilson Ramos’ backup. ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports that he could earn $1 million plus incentives if he makes the team.
