Giants outfielder Gregor Blanco has been diagnosed with a concussion, per the team’s official Twitter. It’s not known how he suffered the concussion, though he did spend time on the concussion disabled list earlier this year. The outfielder has also been dealing with neck discomfort.

The Giants recalled outfielder Jarrett Parker from Triple-A Sacramento.

Blanco’s partner in the outfield Nori Aoki has also been dealing with concussion issues.

Blanco is batting .291/.368/.413 with five home runs and 26 RBI in 372 plate appearances this season.

Giants lose right fielder Hunter Pence to oblique injury

Hunter Pence

Another injury to the Giants outfield, as right fielder Hunter Pence suffered a strained oblique muscle during Monday’s game and has been placed on the disabled list.

San Francisco is already without center fielder Angel Pagan and left fielder Nori Aoki, although it sounds like Aoki is close to returning from the concussion disabled list. Given the typical recovery timetable for oblique injuries Pence could be sidelined well into September.

This is Pence’s third disabled list stint of the season, but when in the lineup he’s done his usual thing by hitting .275 with nine homers and an .806 OPS in 52 games to match his career norms.

As of right now the Giants’ starting outfield is probably Ryan Lollis, Gregor Blanco, and Justin Maxwell. Yeesh.

Giants place Nori Aoki on concussion disabled list

Nori Aoki, Joaquin Arias

San Francisco has placed outfielder Nori Aoki on the seven-day concussion disabled list after he left Wednesday’s game due to dizziness.

Aoki was hit in the head by a pitch Sunday, but passed an initial concussion test and was back in the lineup three days later, only to exit the game in the fourth inning with obvious symptoms.

He previously missed most of July with a fractured leg, but when healthy enough to be in the lineup Aoki has had a very strong season hitting .302 with 12 steals and a .755 OPS in 80 games.

Minor league veteran Ryan Lollis was called up from Triple-A to make Aoki’s spot on the roster and the Giants have veterans Gregor Blanco and Justin Maxwell available to fill in, although Blanco is currently needed in center field with Angel Pagan on the disabled list with a knee injury.

Giants put Angel Pagan on disabled list with knee problem

Angel Pagan

Pagan has been bothered by discomfort in both of his knees for much of the 2015 regular season and the Giants have finally decided to get him some extended rest. The hope is that he’ll be ready after 15 days.

Gregor Blanco will start in center field and lead off in Tuesday night’s series opener versus the Astros.

Pagan, 34, is batting just .258/.290/.308 in 102 games this season for the Giants, who are 2 1/2 games back of the Dodgers in the NL West and 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs in the NL Wild Card chase.

Giants set to get Norichika Aoki back from fractured fibula

Nori Aoki

Left fielder Norichika Aoki is expected to come off the disabled list and rejoin the Giants’ starting lineup tonight against the Brewers after missing the past month with a fractured right fibula.

Aoki had hoped to return over the weekend, but the Giants decided to give him a little extra time to recover. He was having a fantastic first half before the injury, hitting .317 with a .383 on-base percentage after joining the Giants as a free agent on an inexpensive one-year deal.

His on-base skills and strike-zone control are key atop San Francisco’s lineup and Aoki’s return pushes Gregor Blanco back into a reserve role.
