Trade deadline pickup Mike Leake goes on the disabled list after one start for the Giants

San Francisco has placed right-hander Mike Leake on the disabled list after he was scratched from today’s start with a hamstring injury.

By acquiring the impending free agent at the trade deadline the Giants were hoping to get 12-13 starts from Leake, but instead he tossed 6.1 innings of two-run ball in his Giants debut and will now miss at least three turns in the rotation.

Ryan Vogelsong, who’d been banished to the bullpen, will step into the rotation to face the Cubs in Leake’s place.

San Francisco traded right-hander Keury Mella and first baseman/third baseman Adam Duvall to Cincinnati in exchange for Leake, a previously durable 27-year-old with a 3.86 career ERA that includes a 3.53 mark this season.
