Red Sox sign outfielder Andres Torres

Boston has signed veteran outfielder Andres Torres to a minor-league contract, the team announced.

Torres played for the Giants last year, hitting .250 with two homers and a .644 OPS in 103 games. He was once a solid defensive center fielder with a decent bat–including an excellent all-around season for San Francisco in 2010–but now at age 36 he’s likely little more than organizational depth to stash at Triple-A.

Shane Victorino is injured and the Red Sox’s outfield is sort of in flux generally, so the move makes some sense.
