Marlins’ 0.48 ERA reliever Bryan Morris has a hip injury

Right-hander Bryan Morris has been ridiculously good for the Marlins since they acquired him from the Pirates for a draft pick in June, posting a 0.48 ERA in 38 innings. But now he’s hurt.

Morris complained of right hip soreness yesterday and left the Marlins to return to Miami and be examined by team doctors.

So far no disabled list move has been made for the 27-year-old reliever and president of baseball operations Michael Hill told Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald “at the moment, I don’t think it’s anything major.”

The Braves claimed lefty reliever Grant Dayton off waivers from the Dodgers, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Dayton, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery back in August and is almost certainly out for the entire 2018 season. The Braves, obviously, are making a longer-term play here by acquiring him, as he is under team control through 2022.

Over parts of two seasons in the majors, Dayton has a 3.42 career ERA with 59 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 innings.
