As announced on Major League Baseball’s official transactions Twitter feed …

Cuddyer said Friday that the hamstring injury was not serious, but he hadn’t made much progress and the Rockies needed a spot for Bergman, who is the starting pitcher for Sunday’s series finale against the Marlins.

Cuddyer has appeared in just 34 of the Rockies’ 129 games so far in 2014. He is a .305/.361/.517 hitter in 1,075 plate appearances with Colorado, but injuries have derailed what could be his final year with the club.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.

Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.

The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
