She may be asked to play right field too. I mean, it’s the Padres after all:
Agnes McKee is considered one of the oldest residents of San Diego County and shows no signs of slowing down. In honor of her big birthday, McKee was chosen to throw the first pitch at the Padres game on July 20.
That big birthday: the big 1-0-5. She’s been practicing an underhand pitch for the occasion. Odds are it’s better than 50 Cent’s. Heck, it may be better than Justin Masterson’s or Edwin Jackson’s.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.
Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.
The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
