Joe Kelly is “two or three weeks” from rejoining Cardinals

Joe Kelly’s recovery from a hamstring injury has gone much more slowly than expected, but now it looks like the Cardinals right-hander is finally close to coming off the disabled list.

General manager John Mozeliak told Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch that Kelly is likely “two or three weeks” away from returning, although that’s hardly set in stone given that he hasn’t even started a minor-league rehab assignment yet.

Kelly has thrived as a starter for the Cardinals, but he also has previous bullpen experience and manager Mike Matheny hinted that a return to relief work is possible if they want him back in a hurry rather than making him fully stretch out first.

Twins second baseman Brian Dozier entered Tuesday night’s action having hit safely in all 17 games this season and in 24 games consecutively dating back to last season. Sadly for him and for the Twins, that streak ended with an 0-for-4 performance against the Yankees.

Dozier grounded out in the first inning, flied out in the third, grounded out in the sixth, and grounded out again in the eighth.

Despite his streak ending, Dozier still has good numbers on the year. He’s hitting .291/.356/.494 with four home runs, 10 RBI, and 15 runs scored in 87 plate appearances.
