Adam Wainwright to have an MRI on his elbow . . . but it may be OK

This is the kind of news that’ll make Cardinals fans’ sphincters clench with anxiety:

Langosch followed up by noting that, according to Mike Matheny, it’s not a ligament issue. It’s more discomfort akin to tennis elbow. Which OK Dr. Matheny, I think Cards fans may want to wait for the MRI results before they unclench those sphincters.

Wainwright pitched just last night and seemed just fine, shutting out the Rays for seven inning en route to his ninth win of the season. He has a 2.15 ERA and a 91/21 K/BB ratio in 100.1 innings.

Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports that the Angels have hired former Tigers manager Brad Ausmus as a special assistant to GM Billy Eppler.

Ausmus, 48, managed the Tigers for four seasons, accruing a 314-332 (.486) record. The Tigers fired him after the 2017 season and hired former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire in his place.

Ausmus will assist with scouting and evaluations of players in the Angels’ system, amateurs, and players in other organizations.
