Tyler Colvin has a “good chance” to end up with the Orioles after all

The Orioles backed out of a major league contract with outfielder Tyler Colvin last month after concerns about his back emerged during a pre-signing physical, but Troy Renck of the Denver Post hears that there’s a “good chance” that the two sides end up agreeing to a deal after all.

After the Orioles nixed the deal with Colvin, it was reported that they were still willing to sign him to a minor league contract. His market has apparently suffered enough damage where he’s now willing to take them up on their offer.

Colvin, 28, spent most of last season in Triple-A and hit .160/.192/.280 with three homers in 27 games with the Rockies. Coming off a year like that, it’s surprising that a major league deal was on the table in the first place.

The Marlins are on the last leg of a nine-game road trip that started in Seattle, took them through San Diego, and now has them in Philadelphia. If the hectic travel schedule weren’t punishing enough, the NFL Draft has heaped some more difficulty onto the Marlins’ trip.

Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that, because the NFL booked all of the hotels in Philadelphia ahead of the draft (which starts on Thursday and ends on Saturday), the Marlins have to stay at a hotel in Wilmington, Delaware.

At least the city of Wilmington is welcoming the Marlins with open arms:

Cardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter has been suspended one game for bumping home plate umpire John Tumpane when he didn’t like a called strike three in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against the Brewers. Manager Mike Matheny was also ejected along with Carpenter.

Carpenter will serve his suspension Tuesday night, per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Through his first 69 nice plate appearances this season, Carpenter is hitting .236/.362/.364 with a pair of home runs and five RBI.
