Manuel Corpas is staying with Colorado, as Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that the reliever has re-signed with the Rockies on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.

Corpas has struggled to find success after thriving as a rookie closer in 2007, posting a combined 4.81 ERA in 264 innings since then while totaling just 15 saves. Last season he worked middle relief for the Rockies at age 30, throwing 42 innings with a 4.54 ERA and 30/16 K/BB ratio.

According to Harding the contract includes an opt-out clause if Corpas doesn’t make the Opening Day roster out of spring training.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.

Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.

The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
