Padres “willing to listen to offers” for Chase Headley

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has the scoop:

The Padres have made a few runs at signing third baseman Chase Headley to a long-term contract to no avail, and now according to sources, San Diego is willing to listen to offers for the switch-hitter.

The Yankees have checked in before and apparently did so again this winter, but Sherman hears that “neither side thinks they match up” well enough to execute a trade. Headley had a down year in 2013, hitting just .250/.347/.400 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 141 games. He hit .286/.376/.498 with 31 home runs and 115 RBI over 161 games in 2012.

The 29-year-old is currently on track to become a free agent after the 2014 season.
