The D.C. Mayor laughed at the Nationals when they pitched a roof for their ballpark

This is great. Following up on yesterday’s news that, at some point, the Nationals proposed a roof to their ballpark to the D.C. government, the Washington Business Journal reports on the mayor’s response:

Ted Lerner, Nationals owner and Washington-area development mogul, pitched Mayor Vincent Gray on the idea and it didn’t go well. A source in the mayor’s office said Gray “started laughing.” A second source in the executive office said the stadium wasn’t designed for a roof, so it “would be cost prohibitive and butt ugly.”

Well, this is the same franchise which once put a butt-ugly roof on their ballpark years after its construction, so it’s not like it’s anything new. Butt ugly is just part of the organization’s DNA.

The Braves claimed lefty reliever Grant Dayton off waivers from the Dodgers, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Dayton, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery back in August and is almost certainly out for the entire 2018 season. The Braves, obviously, are making a longer-term play here by acquiring him, as he is under team control through 2022.

Over parts of two seasons in the majors, Dayton has a 3.42 career ERA with 59 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 innings.
