Paul Konerko wants to play another year

I would have bet a lot of money that Paul Konerko would hang it up after this year. His contract is up after the season. The White Sox are losing. He’s played terribly. It’s hard to see him bouncing back and becoming the player he used to be because, really, aging doesn’t work like that for ballplayers.  Yet:

I would presume the White Sox would welcome him back on some low money one-year deal given how popular he is with the fan base, given how few other options they have at the moment and given that, heck, they already owe him deferred money through 2020. But boy, it’s gonna be a rough 2014 if Konerko looks the same then as he does now.

Neither the Pirates nor the Tigers could manage any offense during Thursday afternoon’s game at PNC Park. That is, until outfielder Corey Dickerson launched a walk-off solo home run off of Alex Wilson with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Dickerson, 28, has been solid for the Pirates for the first month of the season. He’s batting .314/.348/.500 with a pair of home runs, 13 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 92 plate appearances. The Pirates acquired him from the Rays in late February in exchange for journeyman pitcher Daniel Hudson and Single-A infielder Tristan Gray.
