Ripken Family offers $100K reward for information about their mother’s kidnapping

I had totally forgotten about this, but last year Cal and Billy Ripken’s mother Violet was kidnapped. She was, thankfully, returned unharmed after 24 hours, but the perpetrators have never been caught.  The Ripkens want him caught:

The family of Cal Ripken Jr. is offering a $100,000 reward to help find the person who kidnapped the former Orioles star’s mother last year … Aberdeen police spokesman Lt. Fred Budnick says the case has no new active leads. But Cal Ripken says he hopes the reward will help re-energize the case.

It’s also going to be featured on “America’s Most Wanted,” which is apparently still a thing, strangely enough.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.

Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.

The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
