The Mets are giving Matt Harvey ten more starts

With the addition of Jenrry Mejia to the rotation, Mets starter Matt Harvey has about ten starts left according to manager Terry Collins (via Jorge Castillo). We heard rumors about the shutdown throughout the season and now we have a countdown.

Harvey has logged 145 innings over 21 starts thus far, posting a 2.11 ERA. Averaging about seven innings per start, another ten starts would put him around 215 innings and 31 starts. In essence, he would only be deprived of two starts.

It will be interesting to see what the Mets do if they continue to gain ground in the National League. They could conceivably leapfrog both the Phillies and Nationals in the NL East, as they are just a game behind both in the loss column, 54 to 55.

The Red Sox have re-signed first baseman Mitch Moreland to a two-year contract, the club announced on Monday. According to Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston, the total value of the deal is $13 million and Moreland can earn more through performance incentives.

Moreland, 32, hit .246/.326/.443 with 22 home runs and 79 RBI in 576 plate appearances with the Red Sox in 2017. With Moreland back in the fold, the Red Sox are out of the running for free agent Eric Hosmer.

While Moreland doesn’t have the best bat among first basemen, he plays good defense. His return also means the Red Sox can safely stow Hanley Ramirez back in the DH role.
