The Angels’ lease with Angel Stadium is set to expire after the 2016 season, so the organization and the city of Anaheim are working on a detail to keep the two parties together for the foreseeable future, reports MLB.com’s Zack Meisel. Such a deal may also provide the club with stadium renovations.
“The City of Anaheim and Angels Baseball have entered into discussions relating to the current lease agreement,” [Angels president John] Carpino said in a statement. “These discussions, which are in the early stages, are focused on maintaining a high-quality fan experience for many years to come.”
The relationship between the Angels and the city of Anaheim had been strained in the past, when Arte Moreno changed the team’s name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, leading to a lawsuit, though the jury eventually sided with Moreno.
