As first reported by Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers have placed left-hander Chris Capuano on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf muscle. Tim Federowicz, a catcher, was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
Capuano suffered the calf strain Tuesday in his first start of the 2013 season. He was expected to fill in for Zack Greinke (fractured collarbone) for the next two months. Ted Lilly is now going to get that spot.
Capuano, 34, has a 9.64 ERA in one start and two relief appearances this year. He posted an impressive 3.72 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 162/54 K/BB ratio over 198 1/3 innings as a fixture of the Dodgers rotation in 2012.
