The Yankees get a temporary restraining order against StubHub

Eric Fisher of Sports Business Journal reports that the Yankees have gotten a temporary restraining order against StubHub preventing it from opening its storefront nearby Yankee Stadium. This arising out of the lawsuit we discussed yesterday.

What this means is that, for a very short period of time, StubHub can’t open or operate its ticket-printing station. A TRO is granted without any kind of hearing or evidence beyond the sworn statement of the plaintiff, in this case the Yankees, saying that they will be irreparably harmed if the activity at issue isn’t stopped. A hearing will be held in the next few days, however, as to whether or not StubHub should be enjoined from doing so for a longer period. The TRO, in fact, could have been issued without StubHub even being present in the judges chambers.

But, yeah, it’s on.

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez blasted a two-run home run off of Red Sox starter David Price in the bottom of the first inning of Tuesday night’s game. It’s his 20th homer of the season, tying a record held by Wally Berger for the fastest to 20 homers, per MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. Both did so in 51 career games. Berger did so with the Boston Braves in 1930.

Sanchez came into Tuesday’s game hitting a ridiculous .315/.388/.690 with 19 home runs and 40 RBI in 209 plate appearances. He’s a big reason why the Yankees are still in contention for the American League Wild Card despite selling at the trade deadline.
