UPDATE: Arnett underwent surgery today and is expected to miss 5-6 months.
Milwaukee’s first-round pick in 2009, right-hander Eric Arnett, injured his knee while working out recently and may need season-ending surgery.
Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Arnett is undergoing further testing to determine if he has a torn ACL, which would require a six-month recovery timetable.
Arnett was supposed to move through the minors quickly when the Brewers selected him 26th overall out of the University of Indiana, but instead he’s 25 years old and yet to throw a pitch above Single-A. He showed some promise in shifting from the rotation to the bullpen last season, but a lost year recovering from a knee injury could wipe away whatever remaining chance he had of a big-league career.
