Braves hoping to get Brandon Beachy back in June

Brandon Beachy is seven months removed from Tommy John elbow surgery and the Braves right-hander told Mark Bowman of MLB.com that everything has gone well with his rehab so far.

“I’m just checking days off the calendar,” Beachy said. “I feel good. I haven’t really come across any serious hurdles. I’m just easing along.”

Beachy was leading the National League with a 2.00 ERA when he blew out his elbow in mid-June. Bowman reports that he’s currently throwing on flat ground from 120 feet and likely won’t get back on a mound for another month, but “there’s some hope Beachy will return in late June.”

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant left Sunday afternoon’s game against the Rockies after he was hit in the head by a German Marquez fastball in the top of the first inning. Manager Joe Maddon and a trainer came out to steady Bryant before helping him off the field.

Bryant passed concussion tests, but will continue to be evaluated, the Cubs announced. He has a small laceration above his eye from his sunglasses when he was hit.

Entering Sunday’s action, Bryant was hitting .319/.461/.536 with a pair of home runs and 11 RBI in 89 plate appearances.
