Adam Wainwright thinks he’s going to work out an extension with the Cardinals

Adam Wainwright is still under contract with the Cardinals through 2013, but he tells Derrick Goold of the Post-Dispatch that he wants to stay and thinks he will:

“In brief talks with (Cardinals executives) they feel real good about me coming back for a long time, and I want to make that happen,” Wainwright said. “I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t make that happen. … It’s not like I have one foot out the door (to free agency).”

Not that he’s in the bag. He makes comments about how the Cardinals have to respect what he’s done and pony up decent dough. That said, id he’s talking long term extension already, there’s probably good reason to think it’s gonna happen.

Infielder Trevor Plouffe has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports. Plouffe asked for and was granted his release from the Rangers earlier this month.

Plouffe, 31, had a double and a home run in 17 plate appearances with Triple-A Round Rock to start the 2018 season. He spent last year with the Athletics and Rays, putting up a meager .198/.272/.318 batting line in 100 games.

Plouffe has mostly played third base throughout his career, but can also handle the other three infield spots and both outfield corners, so he’ll serve as organizational depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley for the Phillies.
