No one has called the Yankees about A-Rod

So much talk about how, after the ALCS, there’s no way the Yankees and A-Rod can stay together.  Well, it’s pretty easy to stay together when there’s no one else interested. Bob Nightengale reports:

Not one team, a Yankees official told USA TODAY Sports, has called the club asking about Rodriguez. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the Yankees do not publicly discuss trade possibilities.

Nightengale says that A-Rod, likewise, would not waive his no-trade clause for anyone anyway.  I’ve heard from some people in a position to know that that is not necessarily true. But it’s also academic if no one wants you.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.

Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.

The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
