Mariners sign 17-year-old Dominican prospect Hersin Martinez for $1.1 million

Ben Badler of Baseball America reports that the Mariners have signed 17-year-old Dominican outfielder Hersin Martinez for $1.1 million, which is a move that has apparently been in the works since way back in July.

Martinez is 6-foot-5 and Badler says his raw power “stacks up favorably against anyone in Latin America” despite the fact that he hasn’t really started to fill out yet.

However, Badler also notes that the right-handed-hitting corner outfielder “has a hitch in his swing” and “the question many scouts have is whether he’ll make enough contact for that power to translate to game situations.”

We know Clayton Kershaw will oppose Dallas Keuchel in Game 1 of the World Series. We now know the rest of the Dodgers’ rotation order, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. After Kershaw, it’ll be Rich Hill, then Yu Darvish, followed by Alex Wood.

No surprise, that’s the same order the Dodgers used in the NLCS against the Cubs. Dodger starters combined to post a 2.67 ERA with 31 strikeouts and four walks across 27 innings in the NLCS.

The Astros haven’t yet announced their rotation order, but we can safely assume Justin Verlander will follow Keuchel in Game 2.
