Must-click link: Stop Subsidies to Sports Stadiums

Neil deMause of Baseball Prospectus and Field of Schemes has written an article for The Nation making it clear to anyone who didn’t already know it that using public dollars for ballparks, stadiums and arenas is bad business and bad government.  Here’s a quote which I’ve heard before but it’s always worth repeating:

“If you want to inject money into the local economy, it would be better to drop it from a helicopter than invest it in a new ballpark.”

There’s no argument other than empty civic rah-rah baloney that supports such expenditures. Yet they continue.  I do wish they wouldn’t.

We know Clayton Kershaw will oppose Dallas Keuchel in Game 1 of the World Series. We now know the rest of the Dodgers’ rotation order, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. After Kershaw, it’ll be Rich Hill, then Yu Darvish, followed by Alex Wood.

No surprise, that’s the same order the Dodgers used in the NLCS against the Cubs. Dodger starters combined to post a 2.67 ERA with 31 strikeouts and four walks across 27 innings in the NLCS.

The Astros haven’t yet announced their rotation order, but we can safely assume Justin Verlander will follow Keuchel in Game 2.
