Quote of the Day: The Dodgers are easy targets

I didn’t watch the ESPY Awards. I hope I don’t have to explain why. Just know that I didn’t watch them.  So I missed Mike Seth Myers’* monologue. Which again, shouldn’t be a big deal, because Mike* Myers hasn’t been funny since at least 1997* for a long time.

But when you have material as ripe as the Dodgers are right now, even Mike*Seth Myers gets to rip on you, and there’s not a hell of a lot you can do about it.  My favorite line:

“The Dodgers are so broke, three of their players tested positive for ramen noodles.”

Easy target? Of course. Easy joke? Yep. But I still lol’d.

*I’m told I had the wrong un-funny Myers. Fine, it was Seth. Just further proof that, no, I did not watch the ESPY Awards.

Former number one pick Mark Appel DFA’d by the Phillies

Life comes at you fast.

The Phillies have designated pitcher Mark Appel for assignment. Appel was the number one overall pick, taken by the Houston Astros, in the 2013 draft before being dealt to the Phillies in 2015. He was selected one slot ahead of Kris Bryant and 31 slots above Aaron Judge, by the way.

Appel, who is somehow already 26, posted a 5.27 ERA and 60/53 K/BB ratio over 82 Triple-A innings in 2017. He’s had a history of bone spurs and other ailments that have hindered his development.

It could still come together for Appel in a new location — the Phillies have seven days to trade or waive him — but at this point you can’t consider him a prospect.
