After today’s debacle, Brandon Lyon is probably gonna lose his job

Brandon Lyon had already blown three saves in seven tries entering today’s game against the Reds. After his work today, however, it would not be shocking to see him not get another chance for a long time.

The Astros led the Reds 2-0 entering the bottom of the ninth. Astros pitchers — led by Aneury Rodriguez, making his first ever major league start — had only allowed one hit all afternoon.  Then Lyon came in and allowed the following:

walk
wild pitch
single
RBI single
RBI single
RBI double. Ballgame.

Lyon has now allowed 20 hits in his 11 and one-third innings of work this year.  He is just starting his second year of a three-year, $15 million deal.  He is about to become one of baseball’s more highly paid middle relievers.

The Yankees announced on Wednesday that the club traded outfielder Jabari Blash to the Angels in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Blash, 28, was acquired by the Yankees from the Padres back in December in the Chase Headley trade. In trading Blash to the Angels, the Yankees were able to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Brandon Drury, the infielder they acquired as part of a three-team trade with the Diamondbacks and Rays on Tuesday.

Over parts of two seasons in the majors, Blash has hit an underwhelming .200/.323/.336 in 279 plate appearances. He will try to play his way into a bench role for the Angels this spring.
