Chris Young throws bullpen session, set for Sunday start

Chris Young was scratched from his scheduled Friday start because of biceps tendinitis, but now it looks like his turn in the rotation will merely be pushed back a couple days.

Young threw a bullpen session this morning and reported “no problems” while telling Kieran Darcy of ESPNNewYork.com that he “felt good.” Barring a last-minute setback he’ll face the Braves on Sunday.

Young has never thrown 180 innings in a season and his lengthy injury history made him available to the Mets for just $1.1 million in guaranteed money this offseason, but the 6-foot-10 right-hander looked good in his first two starts and has always been a solid mid-rotation starter in between disabled list stints.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.

Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.

The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
