National League MVP candidate Joey Votto was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup due to a sinus infection, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Chris Heisey replaced him in the lineup, with Jim Edmonds moving to first base.
Votto hit his 35th homer as part of the Reds’ 5-2 win over the Brewers on Monday. He’s currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, and his 1.020 OPS ranks first in the National League.
We’re sure Dave Bush is breathing a sigh of relief at the news. Votto has a homer, two doubles and two walks in nine career at-bats against Milwaukee’s starting pitcher tonight.

Neither the Pirates nor the Tigers could manage any offense during Thursday afternoon’s game at PNC Park. That is, until outfielder Corey Dickerson launched a walk-off solo home run off of Alex Wilson with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Dickerson, 28, has been solid for the Pirates for the first month of the season. He’s batting .314/.348/.500 with a pair of home runs, 13 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 92 plate appearances. The Pirates acquired him from the Rays in late February in exchange for journeyman pitcher Daniel Hudson and Single-A infielder Tristan Gray.
