Ubaldo Jimenez gets 18th win after a month between victories

It took a while, but Ubaldo Jimenez finally got his 18th victory last night to set the Rockies’ franchise record.
Jimenez also leads the NL in wins, but lost four straight decisions between his 17th and 18th victories and had just two wins in nine starts since beginning the season 15-1. Of course, as usual looking strictly at wins and losses paints a very misleading picture.
During his 0-4 stretch Jimenez actually turned in five straight Quality Starts and had a 3.00 ERA with a 35/12 K/BB ratio and .236 opponents’ batting average in 36 innings. He lost four times because the Rockies scored zero, one, or two runs in four of the five games, not because he was pitching poorly. In fact, yesterday’s win was actually his worst start since July 24, but because the Rockies scored 10 runs he came away with the win anyway.

The Braves claimed lefty reliever Grant Dayton off waivers from the Dodgers, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Dayton, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery back in August and is almost certainly out for the entire 2018 season. The Braves, obviously, are making a longer-term play here by acquiring him, as he is under team control through 2022.

Over parts of two seasons in the majors, Dayton has a 3.42 career ERA with 59 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 innings.
