Mark Prior tosses scoreless inning at Triple-A for Rangers

Mark Prior signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers last week and made his Triple-A debut yesterday, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts for Oklahoma City.
Prior, who convinced the Rangers to sign him after pitching well and showing good velocity as a reliever for the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League, loaded the bases with two singles and a walk before wriggling out of the fourth-inning jam.
It was his first action in the majors or (non-independent) minors since way back in 2006 and the Rangers seemingly didn’t sign Prior with the intention of calling him up this season, but he could be a relief option in Texas or elsewhere next year.

The Braves claimed lefty reliever Grant Dayton off waivers from the Dodgers, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Dayton, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery back in August and is almost certainly out for the entire 2018 season. The Braves, obviously, are making a longer-term play here by acquiring him, as he is under team control through 2022.

Over parts of two seasons in the majors, Dayton has a 3.42 career ERA with 59 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 innings.
