Rich Harden may rejoin Rangers' rotation after striking out 10 in rehab start

Rich Harden’s minor-league rehab assignment was extended after he struggled in his first few outings, but the oft-injured right-hander racked up 10 strikeouts in six shutout innings at Triple-A last night.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News speculates that the performance may be enough to get Harden off the disabled list and back in the Rangers’ rotation as soon as this weekend.
Harden hasn’t pitched since June 11 because of a strained left gluteal muscle and struggled mightily while posting a 5.68 ERA and 59/43 K/BB ratio in 65 innings before the injury.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that there is some momentum in talks between the Mariners and free agent outfielder Jon Jay.

Jay, 32, hit .296/.374/.375 in 433 plate appearances with the Cubs last season, which is adequate. He’s heralded more for his defense and his ability to play all three outfield spots.

The Mariners are losing center fielder Jarrod Dyson to free agency and likely don’t want to rely on Guillermo Heredia next season, hence the interest in Jay. The free agent class for center fielders is otherwise relatively weak.
